Rubaya Community Seed Bank | Kabale


Rubaya community seed bank is a legally registered entity established in 2014 with 100 members of which 52 are female and 48 are male famers. The seedbank is located in South-western Uganda, Kabale District, Ndorwa County, Rukore Parish, Kagyera Village.

The crop species currently conserved at Rubaya Community seed bank are Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) The seed bank was given a total of 688 kg of seed for the two seasons in 2018 to strengthen their conservation efforts.

To date, the seed bank receives seed donations as well as support from Bioversity International, National Agricultural Research organization (NARO) and International Fertilizer Development Centre (IFDC).
