Kewerimide Nakasongola seed bank is a legally registered entity established in 2019 with 135 members of which 91 are female and 44 are male famers. The seed bank is located in Central Uganda, Nakasongola District, Nakasongola County, Central Ward Parish, Mayors Village.
The crop species currently conserved at Kewerimide Nakasongola seed bank include
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris),
groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea),
cassava (Manihot esculenta),
millet (Panicum miliaceum),
maize (Zea mays),
peas (Pisum sativum),
and various leafy vegetables.
Kewerimide Nakasongola seed bank also conserves trees such as:
Avocado (Persea americana),
Oranges (Citrus X sinensis),
Mangoes (Mangifera indica),
Cashew nuts (Anacardium occidentale),
Soursop (Annona muricata),
Guava (Psidium guajava),
Vangueria (Vangueria apiculate),
Purple canarium (Canarium schweinfurthii)
and Jambolana (Syzygium cumini)
To date, the seed bank receives seed donations as well as support from
Bioversity International, National Agricultural Research organization (NARO)
and World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF).
